Kimberly Burwick Roughness, Ruckus and Rumble: Writing toward Disquietude Poetry March 12 to May 4, 2018 Number of Participants: 15 Price: $600 Format: 8 Week Asynchronous Workshop

Engaging the acuteness of internal and external strife, we will generate poems that do not shy away from distress, but engage this feeling head-on. We look at poets such as Ted Hughes, Sylvia Plath, Tomaž Šalamun, Tomasz Różycki, Rebecca Gayle Howell, Frank Stanford, Kevin Goodan, Mary Jo Bang as well as excerpts from some of Cormac McCarthy’s prose. Our goal is to create poems that unleash the musicality of our haunted inscapes and landscapes.

Kimberly Burwick was born and raised in Massachusetts. Burwick earned her BA in literature from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and her MFA in poetry from Antioch University Los Angeles. She is the author of four collections of poetry: Has No Kinsmen (Red Hen Press, 2006), Horses in the Cathedral, winner of the Robert Dana Prize (Anhinga Press, 2011), Good Night Brother, winner of the Burnside Review Prize, (Burnside Review Press, 2014) and Custody of the Eyes (Carnegie Mellon University Press, 2017).  She is currently Clinical Assistant Professor of Creative Writing at Washington State University.
