Michael Collier TRANSLATION & REVISION: A GENERATIVE POETRY WORKSHOP – LIVE Poetry July 26 to July 30, 2021 Number of Participants: 12 Price: $550 Format: 1 Week Asynchronous Workshop

Translation as (re)vision is a generative workshop in which cribs will be used to produce versions of poems by Constantine Cavafy, Rainer Maria Rilke, Gabriela Mistral, Félix Morisseau-Leroy, and others. The workshop is designed to provide a practical understanding of translation as well as, and perhaps more importantly, to foster skills that transfer easily to our own revision processes. In addition to the exercises, we will read and briefly discuss a series of essays on approaches to translation. Translation as (Re)vision does not require fluency in a language other than English or previous translation experience. Essays will be provided in advance of the workshop as well as a crib for the first assignment.

LIVE TIME: 12pm-2pm EST.

Michael Collier has published seven collections of poetry, including, most recently, My Bishop and Other Poems, as well as a translation of Euripides’s Medea and a volume of essays, Make Us Wave Back. The recipient of an Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and fellowships from the NEA and Guggenheim Foundation, he is a professor emeritus at the University of Maryland and is a former director of the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conferences.
