Creativity thrives in the quiet of winter. This season, the Fine Arts Work Center is excited to present an additional series of online workshops featuring contemporary literary voices. These intimate sessions are designed to enhance and transform your artistic practice.
A Season of Literary Excellence
Our winter session brings together some of the most compelling voices in contemporary literature and visual arts. Whether you’re taking the first steps toward your novel with bestselling author Ann Hood, exploring the architecture of poetry with former Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets Carl Phillips, or crafting a memoir with National Book Critics Circle Award winner Melissa Febos, you’ll find yourself in a community dedicated to artistic rigor and creative transformation.
Registration for winter workshops opens on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. Early bird pricing will be available for a limited time. If you want to book a workshop now, fall workshops are currently open for registration here.

Choose Your Writing Journey this Winter
This season’s workshops cover a wide range of artistic practices, each offering a unique opportunity to enhance your skills. You can find a sneak preview of some upcoming workshops here.
For fiction writers, Ann Hood’s one-week workshop “Kick Start Your Novel: How to Begin the Story You Want to Tell” (January 27 – 31) opens the door to novel writing. Meanwhile, Ruben Quesada helps writers navigate creative challenges in “Writing Through the Silence: Reclaiming Your Voice After Creative Block.” (March 3-7)
Poets will find inspiration in Carl Phillips’ workshop, “Pattern & Surprise” (February 24 – 28), a generative session that challenges the boundaries of form. Dorianne Laux invites poets for a more intimate week-long exploration of their craft in “Finger Exercises for Poets: the Discrete Line.” (February 24-28)
For those drawn to personal narrative, Melissa Febos offers a one-day workshop titled “The Art of Navel Gazing. ” This revolutionary approach to memoir challenges the false divide between personal and intellectual writing. (March 1)
For visual artists looking to elevate their impact, renowned photographer Jess Dugan offers a one-day intensive sprint on “Professional Practices for Visual Artists.” (February 15) Additionally, Kristina Marie Darling clarifies the publishing landscape in her one-week workshop, “The Fine Art of Book Publicity.” (March 17 – 21)

At the Fine Arts Work Center, we believe in the power of our artistic community, an over 50-year legacy dedicated to nurturing artists and writers. Through live and asynchronous learning, you’ll be free to deeply engage with your work while connecting with a supportive community of fellow writers and artists. Workshop sizes are intentionally intimate to ensure meaningful engagement with faculty and peers.

Scholar Awards
Scholarship opportunities are integral to our commitment to making 24PearlStreet online workshops as welcoming, accessible, and inclusive as possible. For our winter workshops, we are excited to reserve seven FAWC Scholar Awards specifically for Asian American writers. All scholarships are worth $600 towards the cost of a 24PearlStreet online workshop.
