Growing the Poem

Growing the Poem WEEK 7: July 23 to July 28 TUITION: $600 WORKSHOP: 9am-12pm DISCIPLINE: Poetry OPEN TO ALL ON-SITE HOUSING AVAILABLE

This workshop will focus on expanding poems beyond the space of the short, self-contained lyric. Through the reading of published poems and daily writing, we’ll explore strategies that will not only help you write longer poems, but also move your work beyond its current aesthetic and/or emotional limits.

If you have poems you consider unfinished or unsuccessful, bring them along to work with. At the end of the week, you should have at least the beginnings of four new poems, or transformations of old poems, some of which we’ll discuss in class.

In addition to the poems mentioned above, please bring copies of one relatively finished poem for reading and possible brief discussion at the beginning of the workshop.
