Master Printer Series: Combining Monotype & Photo Polymer Intaglio

Anthony Kirk WEEK 4: July 2 to July 7 TUITION: $650 WORKSHOP: 9am-12pm DISCIPLINE: Printmaking OPEN TO ALL ON-SITE HOUSING AVAILABLE

Participants will create intaglio plates using photopolymer plates and combine these with a separate monotype plate in order to print a series of monoprints. The printing of the photopolymer plate remains more or less constant but the approach to inking the monotype plate will vary. This allows for greater experimentation in the printing. In the end, each artist will have completed a variant edition of monoprints. The photopolymer plate will be created from a film positive such as a photograph or a drawing on mylar or textured acetate. All methods used are nontoxic including the water-based printing inks. Therefore the studio environment will be fume free because clean up is simply with dish detergent and water. No solvents nor chemicals are used.

BIOGRAPHY

Anthony Kirk has had a long career in printmaking as an artist, teacher and exhibition curator, but it is his work as a master printer for a wide spectrum of artists that has been his main focus and for which he is best known. In this role he will again be collaborating with Kiki Smith in the printing of a limited edition intaglio print to be included in the Fine Arts Work Center's 50th Anniversary Portfolio.
