What is an archive? How do we approach, enter, and draw from it to alchemize fiction? In this generative workshop designed to start/jumpstart a creative project inspired by archives, whether personal (e.g., family archive) or collective (e.g., national archive), we’ll look at photographs, letters, news articles, and other artifacts, as well as relevant excerpts of published fiction, to prompt fresh pages and discuss ways of excavating, interrogating, and activating found traces of the past. Each class will build on the last; we’ll spend the final class excavating and alchemizing your pages. Expect to walk away with tools to spelunk the past, generate manuscript possibilities, and deeply expand your creative potential.
