About the Offering

Delightful duos, crafty couples, and writers who dare to work in pairs, this eight-week studio will focus on the art of collaborating with other poets. Each student will participate in 2-4 paired groups to produce new, exciting creations written in collaboration. With writing exercises, guided prompts, and experiments for generating new work, we will explore a variety of ways to collaborate with other writers as we explore image, form, line, and craft. Our class will discuss and examine published collaborations, the craft of such writings, and the possibility of working with collaborators in other media such as art, digital, and music. We’ll consider these questions and more: How do collaborations shape narrative? How does the vision and dialogue expand during the process and over time? What do collaborations teach the collaborators about their own work? How do collaborations inspire new work? This is a generative and supportive studio designed to push our work in different directions, challenge ideas about how we write alone and with poets, and create new work collaboratively with others.
