About the Organization: The Fine Arts Work Center is an artist-led organization based in Provincetown and connected to the world. We support artistic freedom, nurture creative connections, and make possible artistic achievements important to the larger culture.
The Work Center is internationally known for an acclaimed seven-month residency program granting fellowships to 20 emerging writers and artists, as well as an open enrollment Summer Workshop Program, an online writing program 24PearlStreet, and an extensive series of year-round cultural events and exhibitions.
Since its creation 50 years ago, the Fine Arts Work Center Fellowship has become one of the leading residency programs in the world. Each year, the Work Center offers 20 seven-month residencies to a jury-selected group of emerging visual artists, fiction writers, and poets. Residencies run from October 1 through April 30.
The Fine Arts Work Center has hosted over 1,000 Fellows since 1968, nurturing an accomplished and far-reaching alumni network. The Work Center’s Fellows, who arrive in Provincetown as emerging and mostly unknown writers and artists, have gone on to win multiple Pulitzer Prizes, National Book Awards, Prix de Rome scholarships, Whiting Awards, Guggenheim Fellowships, and the Nobel Prize in Literature. Visual artists have presented their work at the Venice Biennale, The Museum of Modern Art, The Whitney, The New Museum, MASS MoCA, Friends of the High Line, and many other venues around the world.
The Fine Arts Work Center also presents an open enrollment Summer Workshop Program, an online writing program entitled 24PearlStreet, and an extensive series of year-round cultural events and exhibitions, which take place in the Hudson D. Walker Gallery in Provincetown.

Summary:

We seek a talented and passionate Communications Manager to join our team and help maintain and elevate our brand presence.
Supervised by the Director of External Relations, the Communication Manager will contribute to the development and implementation of the overall marketing and communications strategy.

We seek a dynamic Communications Manager to develop and implement comprehensive content and public relations strategies that align with our mission and enhance our visibility within the arts community. The ideal candidate will have a strong content creation and public relations background, preferably within the arts sector.

Essential Job Functions
The following duties are essential to the role that must be performed with or without reasonable accommodations:
- Content Strategy: Develop and execute a cross-platform content strategy (website, social media, print) that showcases our programs, artists, and impact.
- Media Relations: Write press releases, pitch stories, and serve as a primary point of contact for media inquiries.
- Content Creation: Produce compelling, accessible, inclusive content for blogs, newsletters, social media updates, and marketing materials.
- Relationship Building: Cultivate and maintain relationships with media, influencers, and stakeholders.
- PR Campaigns: Plan and execute public relations campaigns for events, exhibitions, program launches and new initiatives.
- Performance Monitoring: Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of content and public relations initiatives and provide regular reports and recommendations for improvement.
- Social Media Management: Maintain a vibrant online presence and develop strategies to increase engagement and followers.
- Collaboration: Work with internal teams to ensure consistent messaging and branding across all communications.
- Responsiveness: Managing crisis communications as needed, ensuring prompt and
appropriate responses to sensitive situations.
Non-Essential Job Functions
These duties are beneficial but not critical to the role:
- Assisting with graphic design and video editing projects.
- Supporting event planning and logistics.
- Attending optional community and networking events.
- Providing informal mentorship to interns and junior staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field (equivalent experience considered).
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in content creation and public relations, preferably in the arts sector.
- Excellent writing and editing skills with the ability to adapt tone and style for different audiences and platforms
- Strong understanding of digital marketing and social media best practices
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proven track record of developing and executing successful PR campaigns
- Experience in media relations and building relationships with journalists and influencers
- Proficiency in content management systems, social media platforms, and PR tools
- Knowledge of SEO principles and analytics tools
- Excellent organizational and project management skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Passion for the arts and alignment with the Fine Arts Work Center’s mission.
Desired Skills:
- Experience in media, particularly in an agency setting
- Contacts or relationships with New England and National Arts Press
- Experience with graphic design and video editing software
- Familiarity with contemporary art and literary scenes
- Knowledge of the New England arts community

Compensation and Benefits:
The Fine Arts Work Center offers a competitive salary range of $49,000 – $55,000 annually, based on experience. Additionally, the Work Center provides subsidized housing in Provincetown for a one or two-person household. Benefits include 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance.

The available housing is a one-bedroom condo at Meadow Road (https://www.chrgroup.net/properties/meadow-road%2C-provincetown) in Provincetown. The Fine Arts Work Center owns the unit. The Meadow Road units are multi-level, and all include street parking. The lower level is a studio workspace. Inside, you will find traditional pine flooring and cottage-style details. Kitchens have craftsman-style birch cabinets and stainless steel appliances with gas cooking. You will also find bathrooms with ceramic tile floors and washer/dryer hook-ups. All homes have energy conservation features, including thermo-pane windows and high-efficiency gas boilers for heat and hot water. All residential homes and artist studios are part of one condominium association.
