About the Workshop
Lithography became a viable fine art medium early in the 20th century. Because lithography is so beautiful, a sensitive printing of both drawing and wash images, artists have been drawn to it as an expressive medium. Traditional stone lithography involves harsh chemicals and lots of time to process the stone.
This workshop in waterless lithography sidesteps the tedious learning process and allows the individual to understand and create a variety of lithographic images during the week. Working on aluminum plates with water soluble media, the plate is allowed to dry and then coated with a thin layer of silicone. The silicone resists the oil based inks and allows for a dry roll-up. The artist uses no harsh chemicals and is free to experiment with inking and color.
This printmaking workshop is designed for people who like to experiment. Expect to create a series one-of a-kind lithographs, and or editions.
See the Materials List for the items students must bring to the workshop. Students are provided 10 sheets of BFK Rives. More BFK is available at $5.50 a sheet. Students will also be provided inks and two sheets of lithographic aluminum . More aluminum plates will be available at cost.
