Culture and Climate

  • We have made a significant effort to curate faculty that, as a whole, reflects the diversity of our society, so that the experience is as welcoming and inviting as possible to students of all backgrounds. To learn more about our 2026 instructors, please click here
  • In 2025 and 2026 – and beyond – we are making a particular effort to welcome more indigenous teachers to our summer faculty.
  • We have instituted what we call our ‘Honor Tax,’ in which we invite summer workshop participants to donate to the Native Land Conservancy. This Mashpee, MA-based nonprofit is committed to protecting and restoring land for all living things wherever possible, and to perpetuating indigenous cultural lifeways.
  • We have created a summer staff position we call the Culture and Belonging Specialist, who is responsible for making sure we do everything possible to create a welcoming and inclusive environment at FAWC. This role also helps ensure that we have the tools needed to address any incidents that may occur in a respectful and restorative manner.
  • To learn more about FAWC’s commitment to creating an environment that is welcoming and inclusive for people from systematically marginalized communities, please visit our IDEA Resources page.
