Carmen Maria Machado Sprint Workshop with Carmen Maria Machado – LIVE Fiction June 6, 2023 Tuition: $225.00 Class Size: 101 Session: Summer Format: 3 Hour Sprint - LIVE Zoom Workshop

Stories That Stand Still – LIVE via ZOOM: 1pm-4pm (Eastern) on June 6th.

In this talk, we’ll explore the craft of writing fiction that doesn’t move—fiction contained in a single, discreet space as large as a house, and as small as a bed—and the implication it has for our understanding of gender, characterization, plot, and time. Stories discussed will include Angela Carter’s “The Fall-River Axe Murders,” Susan Glaspell’s “A Jury of Her Peers,” Kate Chopin’s “The Story of an Hour,” Nancy Hale’s “The Earliest Dreams,” and Lesley Nneka Arimah’s “The Future Looks Good.”

Sprints are 3 hour workshops with stellar writers, usually centered on a theme.

This workshop is limited to 100 participants.
