December FAWC Friday
Friday, December 6, 2024
5-9 PM
Join us on a selected Friday each month from November and February for a fantastic lineup of visiting writers and visual artists of national recognition who will share their work. Our Fellows in residence will also be invited to open their studios for you to explore, and the Michael Mazur Printmaking Studio will be available for art-making activities. To add to the festive atmosphere, we have local musicians lined up, and Cape Cod restaurants and caterers will provide food and drinks for all. FAWC Fridays are a unique opportunity for our community to come together and celebrate in a fun and participatory way.

About Our Visiting Artists
Raul De Lara is a New York City-based sculptor who explores the emotive and storytelling qualities of wood, stone, sand, steel, and leather materials. Drawing inspiration from humor, magical realism, and the uncanny, his art references flora, furniture design, and cultural artifacts. After immigrating from Mexico at age 12, he became a DACA recipient in 2012, and his experiences inform his reflections on nationality, queer identity, and the immigrant journey. De Lara honors traditional woodworking practices in Mexican and American cultures while integrating modern advancements. He holds an MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University and a BFA from the University of Texas at Austin. His accolades include the NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship, recognition as a Top 20 Global Talent to Watch by Art in America Magazine, and various fellowships and residencies, including Fine Arts Work Center, Penland Distinguished Artist Winter Fellowship, Silver Art Projects Residency, among others.
Nick Flynn (writer, playwright, and poet) is the author of thirteen books, including Low (Graywolf, 2023) and Some Ether (Graywolf, 2000), winner of the PEN/Joyce Osterweil Award. His bestselling memoir Another Bullshit Night in Suck City (Norton, 2004) was made into a film starring Robert DeNiro (Focus Features, 2012), and has been translated into fifteen languages. Stay: Threads, Collaborations, and Conversations (Ze Books, 2020), documents twenty-five years of his collaborations with artists, filmmakers, and composers. Flynn’s poems, essays, and nonfiction have appeared in the New Yorker and the Paris Review, and on NPR’s This American Life. His film credits include “field poet” and artistic collaborator for the film Darwin’s Nightmare, which was nominated for an Academy Award for best feature documentary in 2006. He has been awarded fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Library of Congress, and the Fine Arts Work Center, among other places. He is based in Brooklyn, and spends each spring in residence at the University of Houston, where he is a professor in the Creative Writing Program.
Cody Sullivan is a theater-maked based out of Boston and Provincetown MA. He received his BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2014, and trained in improvisation at the iO Theater in Chicago. He was a member of the iO from 2016-2019. Right before pandemic Cody moved to Provincetown. He wrote his solo show Town Meeting and began his community show CODY PLAYS in June 2023 at the Gifford House. He is the Provincetown Theater’s Playwright in Residence for 2025.
Vicky Tomayko is an artist and printmaker who lives in Truro, MA. A past Fine Arts Work Center Fellow and the current manager of FAWC’s printshop, she leads workshops for Fellows, facilitates projects, and works to maintain and improve the printmaking experience at FAWC. Tomayko also teaches silkscreen at Cape Cod Community College. Her work can be seen locally at Schoolhouse Gallery in Provincetown.
