Rowan Ricardo Phillips is an award-winning poet and essayist. His writing appears in The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, The Paris Review, and other national and international publications. He has been awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Nicolás Guillén Outstanding Book Award, the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award, the PEN/ESPN Award for Literary Sports Writing, the PEN/Joyce Osterweil Award for Poetry, a Whiting Award, and the GLCA New Writers Award. He has also been a finalist for the Griffin Poetry Prize, the National Book Award, and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize.
Elizabeth Flood is an artist currently living and working in Provincetown, MA. Her paintings survey the complex layers of extraction, violence, and expression within the American landscape. Through her experiential practice of working in the landscape, she forecasts future impact and keeps watch over a country and land in crisis.
Flood earned her MFA in Painting from Boston University (2019); her BA from the University of Virginia (2014), where she studied Studio Art, History, and Religious Studies; and attended the Mount Gretna School of Art (2014, 2015). In 2019, she was a participant at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and was an Artist In Residence at the Studios at MASS MoCA. She has received several grants and awards including the Real Art Ways Award, the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Graduate Fellowship, and the John Walker Alumni Award at Boston University. She has worked as a visiting lecturer in painting and drawing at Colgate University, and as the lead painting instructor at the Mount Gretna School of Art Summer Intensive Program. Flood has upcoming solo exhibitions at Real Art Ways in Hartford, CT, and the Fine Arts Work Center. Her work has been shown in group exhibitions, most recently at the Provincetown Art Museum, Exeter Gallery in Baltimore, and Greene House Gallery in Brooklyn. Flood is originally from Virginia and is currently a Visual Arts Fellow at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown.
Joan Wickersham is the author of The Suicide Index, a National Book Award finalist, and The News from Spain. Her fiction, essays, and poetry have appeared in many publications, including The Best American Short Stories and The Best American Nonrequired Reading. She writes a regular op-ed column for The Boston Globe. Wickersham has taught fiction and memoir at Harvard, Emerson, UMass Boston, and the Bennington Writing Seminars.
All readings and artist talks are held in the Stanley Kunitz Common Room, unless otherwise noted. Our annual summer exhibition, Density’s Glitch, is on view through August 28, 2022 in our Hudson D. Walker Gallery. Both venues are located at 24 Pearl Street in Provincetown.
Gallery Hours: Monday – Thursday, 11 AM – 3 PM / Friday and Saturday, Noon – 5 PM
We require all students, faculty, staff, and guests to wear a mask when indoors at the Work Center.
