Marie Howe’s New and Selected Poems won the 2025 Pulitzer Prize—let’s read it together! In this class, we’ll closely read Howe’s collection, discussing the intersection of narrative and lyric that occurs in her work and tracking her techniques for capturing the sacred in the everyday. At the same time, we’ll complete a variety of guided exercises, using Howe’s example to draft new work of our own. We will share our poems with each other and receive feedback, but this workshop will primarily be generative. Participants will leave with a greater appreciation for a master poet’s tools, as well as drafts of at least five poems and fresh ways to push their poetic practice.
This offering preceeds FAWC’s September 14th fundraiser featuring Marie Howe. For more details about this event, email senior program manager Jennifer Jean: jjean@fawc.org
