This generative workshop will explore the composition styles and the exchanges between poetry and visual art (mostly photography), with the goal of propelling us into our own new drafts and projects.

About the Instructor/Moderator
Marcus Jackson
is an award-winning poet and a visual artist whose poems and photographs have appeared in such publications as The American Poetry Review, The New Yorker, and The New York Times Magazine. His second book of poems, entitled Pardon My Heart (Northwestern University Press), was released in 2018. Jackson’s forthcoming book of street portraits and poems, Love’s Austere and Lonely Offices, will be out in June 2026. Jackson lives with his wife and child in Columbus, Ohio, and directs the creative writing MFA at Ohio State.

Their work is regularly exhibited internationally and is in the permanent collections of over 60 museums. Over the past fifteen years, they have built a sustainable career as a visual artist and have extensive experience working with museums, galleries, universities and nonprofit organizations, publishers, and press outlets. In addition to their own creative work, they are passionate about sharing the professional knowledge they’ve acquired throughout their career with other artists.
