The Fine Arts Work Center is thrilled that Schoolhouse Gallery will open a new exhibition this Friday, July 11th that will include the works from the estate of Michael Mazur, our esteemed past Board Chair, teacher and beloved artist whose name we dedicated our world class printmaking studio to, along with our current Board chair, Lynne Kortenhaus, who counts Mazur as her mentor and has created a new series of monotypes done right here in our print shop.  These works are on view until July 29, 2025.

LYNNE KORTENHAUS presents a suite of new monotypes. Lynne has always lived close to the sea and her art is deeply influenced by the changing moods of the shoreline in every season.  Wherever she travels, she photographs natural moments and uses these images to inspire her monotypes, etchings, and collages. She is particularly drawn to the reflection of light on land and ocean, and the Atlantic coast’s ever-changing tides and dunes.

Kortenhaus attended the Rhode Island School of Design where she earned a BFA in 1973 and an MFA in 1975. She spent her final year studying drawing and printmaking in Florence, Italy. The technical, process-driven demands of printmaking satisfy her obsessive nature; she has been dedicated to refining her craft ever since.

Lynne is a passionate supporter of the fine arts community. She is a member of the Provincetown Art Association and Museum; a Director’s Circle member of the Institute of Contemporary Art; and board President of the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown. She is a former chair of the Public Art Commission for the City of Boston and a current member of the Director’s Circle at Boston’s ICA. She is a contributing artist to the FAWC Monoprint Project, originally established by Michael Mazur and is a member of the Boston Printmakers.
