About the Offering

Sunday, October 5th at 10am-1pm (Eastern)

For this two hour art-making create-a-thon, you will select an artist from Mary Gabriel’s Ninth Street Women book to be your muse; for example: Lee Krasner, Elaine De Kooning, Helen Frankenthaler, Grace Hartigan, or Joan Mitchell. You will create your own art in reaction and response to your selected artist. To prepare, you will choose paint, collage, drawing, video or film as your medium (or a mixed media combination).

For those of you who want to respond with prose or with poetry along with visual, or with written words only, all forms of expression are welcome.

This Sprint offering is preceded by Laura Shabbott’s 4 week offering exploring Gabriel’s book called Ninth Street Women: a Seminar. You may register for both offerings but it is not required.

About the Instructor/Moderator

Laura Shabott's work is sparked by a deep need to capture the life force with color, composition, and form, either working with a model, who is sometimes herself, or with objects and plants. The canvas, collage or drawing contains the energy and the history of the process.

Provincetown based, she is a graduate of School of Museum of Fine Arts at TUFTS, Boston, with multiple self-directed Returning Residencies at the Fine Arts Work Center, Provincetown. She was part of the inaugural cohort for the Building Capacity Grant through the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod. She is represented by Berta Walker Gallery and her art is in the Permanent Collection of the Provincetown Art Association and Museum.
