Introducing the Fine Arts Work Center 2026–2027 Fellows

Twenty writers and visual artists have been selected for the Fine Arts Work Center’s 2026–2027 Fellowship, a fully funded, seven-month residency valued at approximately $50,000 per artist.

Chosen from a pool of more than 1,300 applicants, the Fellows will live and work in Provincetown, Massachusetts, the nation’s most enduring artist community, from October 1 through April 30. Each Fellow receives an apartment, a dedicated studio (for visual artists), a monthly stipend of $1,300, and a $1,000 exit stipend, support designed to give artists uninterrupted time to develop new work during the Outer Cape’s quiet off-season.

Founded in 1968 by artists and writers including Robert Motherwell and Stanley Kunitz, and named one of the world’s top artist-founded and led residencies by Artnet, the Work Center has nurtured more than 1,100 emerging artists and writers over nearly six decades.

Past Fellows have gone on to be awarded a Nobel Prize in Literature, two U.S. Poet Laureate appointments, five Pulitzer Prizes in fiction, six Pulitzer Prizes in poetry, four MacArthur Fellowships (for both art and literature), five National Book Awards, the Rome Prize, Guggenheim fellowships, awards from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the London Royal Academy of Art and many others.
