What We Offer
Yes! We are committed to providing activities and resources for both writers and visual artists! Check out our catalog to see what’s coming up.
No! We have a variety of online activities and resources that are free:
- Readings. We offer regularly scheduled online readings that are free and open to the public.
- Panel discussions. We offer talks and panel discussions on a regular basis that are also free and open to the public.
- Other events. We regularly schedule other events that bring people together, like our super-popular Submitathons.
- On Demand. You can also attend any events that are live streamed from the Work Center or watch recordings of all events for free.
- Resources. You can also take advantage of other free resources we will offer online in the coming months, like our daily prompts for writers and artists, deadlines calendar and our growing library of articles and videos.
- Creative Community offerings. We offer a variety of low-cost offerings that we call our Creative Community offerings, designed to help you stay accountable to your creative goals, grow creatively and find creative community. Examples of our low-cost offerings include our Writer Accountability Groups, our Creative Co-Play series for both visual artists and writers, and our Poetry Dates. Our list of low-cost Creative Community events will continue to grow, so be sure to sign up for our newsletter to stay informed!
- Manuscript and Portfolio Reviews. We also offer individually-tailored manuscript and portfolio reviews, which connect you with mentors who help you take your work to the next level. Prices for these services vary.
- Educational Offerings (Workshops, classes, etc.). We offer a variety of paid educational offerings, all taught by instructors who are both excellent teachers and accomplished artists.
We have some new educational offering formats, including our weekend intensives, our 4-week live via zoom workshops for both writers and visual artists, and 9-month long live via zoom workshops, so be sure to explore our catalog .
We still offer our live via zoom sprints and our 1 week live via zoom educational offerings.
You will receive an introductory email from us a few days before your workshop start date. This email will contain a guide about how to use the online classroom and, if applicable, a Zoom link. You will receive a separate email giving you access to our online classroom (previously registered students need only use their existing online classroom account).
- Live via Zoom Sprint Workshop/Class: This is a 2-hour, intensive offering that is typically primarily generative.
- Live via Zoom Weekend Intensive Workshop/Class: This is typically a 6-hour intensive weekend offering that can be primarily generative, provide a workshop experience, or a combination of the two.
- Live via Zoom 1-Week Workshop/Class: These intensive workshops will meet for 2 hours for 5 days over the course of 1 week. These offerings typically combine generative and workshop aspects.
- Live via Zoom 4-Week Workshop/Class: These workshops meet once a week for 2 hours for 4 weeks. These offerings typically combine generative and workshop aspects.
- Live via Zoom 9-month Workshop/Class:
- Workshop: In a workshop environment, students will generally offer comments on each other’s work, which can be pre-existing or generated during class.
- Generative: In a generative environment, emphasis is placed on the creation of new work. There might be limited comments on work generated, but this will typically be offered by the teacher, not fellow students.

- On-demand offerings? No. Our online offerings, like our daily prompts, deadlines calendar, live streams, and recordings of events, are available whenever it works for you. No need to register to take advantage of them.
- Free online events? Yes. When you register for our free online offerings, like our Wilder Words Readings, Student Open Mic readings and panel discussions, it helps us anticipate attendance and adjust our bandwidth needs accordingly. It also enables us to send you a link to a recording of the event afterwards, just in case you weren’t able to attend the event.
- Paid offerings? Yes. You have to register and pay for our paid offerings, like our workshops and Creative Community offerings, in order to secure your spot.
- For our free events, no. You can register anytime right up to the beginning of the event.
- For our paid events, yes. You have to register by midnight the day before an educational offering or other paid offering begins.
The feedback we received most in preparing for the online re-boot was that our online workshops were too expensive. We listened to your input and have created a tiered pricing system that provides price points for most budgets. For more detail, please visit our catalog. If our paid offerings are still too expensive for you, we invite you to apply for a scholarship.
Yes, in addition to the cost of tuition, there is an additional $25 registration fee for all workshops and classes. There is no registration fee added to the Creative Community events or any of our free events.
Flexible payment plans are available to every student. To use our payment plan option, please proceed with registration as usual and select “Payment Plan” on the second page of our registration form when asked about your Payment Method. You will then be prompted to select payment dates and payment amounts in the fields that appear. Though students may make Payment Plan payments via credit card at regular intervals, please plan for your tuition to be paid in full three days before the start of your workshop.
Since we are now offering a tiered pricing system, we won’t typically offer discounts on a regular basis. But be sure to sign up for our newsletter to learn about occasional discounts.

- Yes! We offer scholarships, many of which are co-sponsored by notable writing organizations like Cave Canem, the Institute for American Indian Arts, Kundiman, Lambda Literary, Zoeglossia and others. Our scholarship program is consistently growing. Check our scholarship page for more details and new developments.
Payment is fully refundable more than 14 days prior to the workshop/class start date. Registrations canceled less than 14 days prior to the workshop/class start date cannot be refunded, although students may request a transfer to another workshop in the same session.
Yes. You may use your workshop/class payment receipt (received via email) as proof of registration.
